Why Do We Need To Connect?

Loneliness often convinces us that our struggles are ours alone, making it even harder to reach for support. Inspired by Irvin Yalom's words, this post reflects on the healing power of being witnessed, and how sharing our experiences can transform isolation into connection.

“Isolation only exists in isolation; once shared, it evaporates.” – Irvin Yalom

There’s a certain kind of loneliness that convinces us we are the only ones feeling this way.

That no one will understand. That our pain, our fears, our struggles are too much, too complicated, too unique to be held by another.

But the truth is, the moment we share even a small piece of what we’re holding, something shifts.

Connection doesn’t make pain disappear, but it makes it lighter. It reminds us that we don’t have to carry everything alone.

When we let ourselves be seen, when we reach out—whether to a friend, a trusted person, or a safe space—we find that our experiences are not as isolating as they seemed.

We realise that others have felt this too.

That being human means struggling, but it also means having the capacity to hold and be held in return.

If you’re feeling alone, we hope you find the courage to reach out. To speak your truth, even if it’s just a whisper at first.

Because your feelings are valid, your struggles are real, and you deserve support—always.
